Local teenager faces long road to recovery after a vehicle accident Friday

Jack Fishback, 16, was believed to have been trapped in his vehicle for close to an hour before a passerby, Randolph Lewis, noticed a reflection from the sun over an embankment and turned around to investigate.
The Adair County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Edmonton Road around two miles west of Columbia around 6 p.m. Friday. Fishback’s vehicle, a 2004 Ford Ranger, had exited the roadway and traveled down an embankment. Officers believe he dropped off the right-hand shoulder of the highway, attempted to recover the vehicle and overcorrected.
Fishback was treated on the scene before being transported to T. J. Health Columbia and then flown to UK Hospital in Lexington.
Fishback is a well-known teenager in the community and often plays piano with a local band and has performed at various events across the state. He was recognized as a Community Voice “20 under 40” at the age of 14 in 2022.
His family has been keeping the community updated on his condition. He was in ICU until Monday when he was moved to a step-down unit.
