Adair County High School added a new spring sport to its lineup. This is the first year that boy’s volleyball has been sanctioned by KHSAA.
The team is coached by Andrew Reliford, who says he is “thrilled to be part of 60-70 schools across the state that will participate in this historic year.’
His goal is to establish a fun yet competitive program. While other schools have players that have participated in club or travel teams, this is completely new for most of the Adair County team.
One player, John Peter Lopera, who moved here in October from the Phillipines, has been playing volleyball for several years. He said he played at his former school, and he and his friends would play after school each day. Lopera praised Coach Reliford, saying that he is a good coach who is really helping them grow.
The team consists of nine players, including two foreign exchange students. So far they have had a bumpy start, according to Madden Moye, with a current record of 2-5. Reliford is optimistic that they will be ahead of many teams in the coming years who have not developed teams yet. Reliford counts this opportunity to be the first ever head coach of Adair County Boys Volleyball as an absolute honor.
The team will play at home on May 2 at 5 p.m.
