Plans are continuing to take shape for Columbia’s 250th Celebration during the Fourth of July weekend.

The festivities will begin on Friday, July 3, with Columbia Nights. Local businesses will stay open later, and additional activities are being planned. Jack Fishback will perform on the public square from 6 to 7 p.m.

The City of Columbia will also host a Fourth of July decorating contest for both businesses and residences. First-place prizes will be awarded in each category. Anyone interested in participating should register through city hall.

Local children are encouraged to paint a rock and place it in a flower bed around the square or in the designated rock area beside city hall as part of the community celebration.

Activities will continue Saturday, July 4, with Independence on the Grounds at the Adair County Fairgrounds, 256 Industrial Park Road. A Columbia Cruise-In & Car Show will be held in the Judicial Center parking lot, and the weekend will conclude with a fireworks display beginning at 8:30 p.m., sponsored by the City of Columbia and the Adair County Fiscal Court.
