County Fair Highlights

Another successful Adair County Fair is in the books. It was a fun-filled week for everyone with new events, carnival rides, a petting zoo and a wide variety of food.
Despite the rain and mud, people came out to support the fair and watch their favorite events with an estimated 5,000 people in attendance this year. The grandstands were packed both nights of the demolition derby, which always proves to be a crowd favorite.
The fair pageants were held on three nights and were a huge success. “The pageants were way up from last year,” said Amanda Page, Adair County Fair Association Secretary/Treasurer. “Some categories had double the entries from last year”.
The Adair County Fair pageants are a preliminary pageant for the Kentucky State Fair pageants. Winners in the categories from Little Mr. and Miss and up will go on to compete for the state title.
Locally owned food vendors were there to offer something for everyone. The carnival concessions also had all the fair favorites such as candied apples, cotton candy, and deep-fried Oreos.
The fair association is very pleased with the outcome of this year’s fair. Many local businesses and individuals helped make everything possible through monetary donations, equipment usage, and donating their time.
The fair association will begin planning for next year’s fair soon. They plan to add more motorsports and track events to the schedule.
They also hope to have the arena finished before the next fair to hold more 4H and agriculture events. The construction of that arena has begun but is on hold due to funding now. If anyone would like to help with this, please contact any fair association member.
Page said that they are hoping to have more events at the fairgrounds in the future. “We are trying to plan a rodeo for the fall”, she said.
