On Monday, Jailer Buddy Powell contacted Columbia City Police Chief Evan Burton about an incident at the jail. Powell had conducted an internal investigation and turned the information over the Burton.
“Jailer Powell contacted the Columbia Police Department about an incident, and we worked together on the case. There was never a threat to anyone at the jail,” said Burton.
The incident involved two jail employees. While nobody would reveal the details of the incident, the Community Voice has confirmed with multiple sources that the investigation stems from an alleged theft of items belonging to an inmate.
No one at the jail was harmed or ever in any danger. The two individuals in question are no longer employed by the Adair County Regional Jail.
“A thorough investigation was conducted with the help of my wonderful staff,” stated Powell. “I will not tolerate this behavior.”
The incident is still under investigation with possible charges pending. More information will be released as it is available.
