Despite the heat, more groups and individuals signed up to participate in the annual Paint the Town event on Thursday. Kids of all ages were drawing on the sidewalk around the square.
According to Mayor Pam Hoots, this was also the largest attendance for the event in the six years the event has been held. Spectators enjoyed the vendors and watched as the sidewalks came to life with a wide array of drawings.
The Columbia Police Department had the Substance Abuse Education Trailer available for everyone. Inside was Sergeant Trevor Foster to answer any questions. The trailer helps spread awareness about the different forms of drugs and substances, how to identify them and informational materials on addiction.
Columbia Adair County Fire Department had truck 121 parked on the square and the children were fascinated by the loud horn that echoed between the buildings. Firefighters were there handing out junior firefighter hats and talking about volunteer firefighting.
The event was a success and the City of Columbia is looking forward to next year.
