Traffic stop leads
to two arrests

On Friday, Adair County Deputy Sheriff Hunter Tweedy conducted a traffic stop on Burkesville St. that resulted in the arrest of two individuals on drug related charges.
Daniel Cagney Burton, 40, of Columbia and Kelly Smothers, 45, of Greensburg were both arrested.
Burton was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, possession of marijuana, failure of owner to maintain required insurance, failure to produce insurance card, obstructed windshield and no rear-view mirror.
Smothers was charged with possession of a controlled substance 1st degree methamphetamine, prescription-controlled substance not in proper container 1st offense, possession of controlled substance 3rd degree- drug unspecified.
Both were lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail. Arrests were made by Adair County Sheriff's Deputies Hunter Tweedy and Rick Eastham.

Man arrested on multiple charges

Adair County man was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 17 and charged with rape; fleeing or evading police, 1st degree on foot; unlawful imprisonment 1st degree; strangulation 1st degree; and assault 4th degree domestic violence.
Around 5 p.m. deputies responded to a call from a female stating she had been sexually and physically assaulted. The victim alleged that she and Malachi Webster, 31, had been in a verbal altercation that escalated when she tried to leave the residence.
The victim told deputies that Webster had forcefully raped and strangled her when she tried to call for help. She was eventually able to escape the residence and call 911 from a neighbor’s house.
When deputies arrived, Webster attempted to flee into the woods but was located and taken into custody. Webster was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail.
The victim was taken to TJ Health Columbia and later flown to a Tennessee hospital for her injuries.
Deputy Nick Barber and Deputy Josh Durbin are investigating.
