The Adair County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a single vehicle accident last Thursday involving a motorcycle about four miles out Knifley Road.
The preliminary investigation determined that Levi Abbott, 43, of Columbia, was operating a 2007 Kawasaki ZX600 southbound when he lost control of the motorcycle while navigating a curve. The motorcycle crossed the center line, went across to the northbound lane and left the roadway. The motorcycle then traveled the ditch line and struck a culvert before coming to a stop.
A landing zone was set up by the Columbia-Adair County Fire Department for Abbott to be flown from the scene. After evaluation by the flight team, he was not stable enough to fly from the scene. He was then transported to T.J. Health Columbia and later by Air Evac to University of Kentucky Hospital.
According to posts on social media, Abbott suffered numerous injuries. He has undergone four surgeries. His spleen and a piece of his liver have been removed. He is currently listed in critical but stable condition.
The Adair County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Adair County E911, Adair County EMS, Columbia/ Adair Fire Department, Kentucky State Police, and Air Evac Lifeteam.
Deputy Derek Padgett is leading the investigation with assistance from Deputy Hunter Tweedy and Deputy Josh Durbin.
