The Janice Holt Giles and Henry Giles Foundation will host its first Spring Festival on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Giles Historic Log Cabin, 380 Spout Springs Road in Knifley.
The free event will kick off the season at the Giles House, which is open for tours on Saturdays and Sundays from the first weekend in June through the first weekend in October.
The festival will feature live music by the 101 Bluegrass Band, food available for purchase from Friend of Fungi, vendors offering a variety of products, and Giles books and merchandise. Tours of the cabin and property will also be available.
A Giles basket will be raffled off, and a silent auction featuring a variety of items will be held during the event.
There is no charge for vendors, and preregistration is not required. Items for sale may include arts and crafts, yard sale items or other merchandise.
“Any and everyone is welcome to come out; it’s free,” said Lakeysha Tucker, organizer of the event. “Just show up with a table and a tent if you want, bring your stuff and hopefully we will have a good time.”
The Janice Holt and Henry Giles cabin has a rich history in Adair County. The cabin took four years to build and became the couple’s home. Janice Holt Giles published 24 books between 1950 and 1975. The couple lived at the cabin until their deaths and are buried in the Caldwell Chapel Separate Baptist Church Cemetery a few miles from their home.
The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Donations are welcome and tax deductible, with all proceeds going toward the preservation and upkeep of the property. Donations may also be mailed to the The Janice Holt Giles and Henry Giles Foundation, 380 Spout Springs Road, Knifley, KY 42753.
“Good music, good food, good friends, good fund. Everybody is welcome. Donations are always appreciated,” said Tucker.
