The May primary is over, but there are non-partisan races for which candidates still have time to file. The deadline to file for mayor, city council, soil conservation, and school board in District 1 and District 3 is June 2 at 4 p.m.
Incumbent Mayor Pamela Hoots filed for re-election on February 25. Hoots is seeking her third consecutive term. During this run, she was elected in November 2018 and took office in January 2019. Hoots was previously mayor from 1989 until 1993.
As of press time, Hoots is currently unopposed.
Ronald “Butch” Rogers was the first to file for a seat on the city council in March. Charles Grimsley filed on May 21, and Sharon Payne filed on May 22. There are six seats on the city council.
Rogers and Payne are currently on the city council. Grimsley served previously on the council.
Two candidates have filed for school board member in District 1. Cassie Burns filed on April 30, and incumbent Terry Harvey filed on May 5.
No candidates have filed for District 3 school board or soil conservation.
