Rabon Delane ‘Toon’ Burton

Posted

Rabon Delane “Toon” Burton opened his eyes to Jesus Thursday, October 2, 2025. He was born on December 20, 1939, in Adair County to Carl and Altha Pyles Burton.
Toon was a member of Trinity Church and loved his church and sharing the word of God to anyone from his gas stations to the nursing home. He always said, “Jesus is my best friend.”
Survivors include two daughters, Tonya Loy (Mike) and Annette Hatcher (Chris) both of Columbia; three grandchildren, Will Loy of Richmond, Riley Lane Loy of Lincoln, Neb. and Carah Dell Claiborne (Dusty), of Columbia; a great grandson, Archie James Claiborne; his brother, Ralph (Peggy) Burton, of Liberty; his sister, Gail (Randy) Camfield, Columbia; and several family and friends.
The family is deeply grateful for the love and care provided to him by Marilyn Janes over the last four years.
Along with his parents, he was proceeded in death by his wife, Ethel Hadley Burton; his brothers, Kevin, Mick and Wayne Burton; and his sisters, Frankie Hatch and JoAnn Burton.
One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandkids and Archie. The smile on his face when he saw them was pure joy. There were no “sons-in-law,” they were his sons. To his girls, he was perfect. He prayed by name over every one of his family, daily.
Although polio tried to slow him down, it did not win. His life was so active from being with his family and friends, church, drag racing, fishing, golfing, hunting, always quick witted with a joke and a smile. He loved his work families from his days at Burton Bros, B & M Service Center, and Adair County Jail/911 Dispatch.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Trinity Church with burial in Haven Hill Cemetery.
Bro. Steve Pescosolido officiated, and pallbearers were Mike Loy, Chris Hatcher, Will Loy, Dusty Claiborne, Adam Burton, Tim Burton, Michael Burton and Jason Camfield.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Kosair Charities or Bearwallow Cemetery and may be left at the funeral home.
