The Adair County Indians finished as runners-up in the district tournament after falling to rival Taylor County in the championship game. The teams have now met four times this season with each team winning twice.
Tylin George led the Indians in scoring with 19 points, while Landon Blakey pulled down 10 rebounds. Adair County outrebounded the Cardinals 31-27.
The Indians struggled from 3-point range, shooting 4 of 18, while Taylor County connected on 9 of 22 from beyond the arc. The Cardinals also went to the free-throw line 33 times compared to just nine attempts for Adair County. Dawson Gilbert fouled out at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
In his postgame interview, Coach Deron Breeze voiced frustration with the officiating of the game.
Adair County will face Bardstown on Thursday in the opening round of the 5th Region Tournament. The two teams met in February, with Bardstown winning by three points.
“Bardstown is district winner and won eight of last 10 games. The only lost were without their best player,” said Breeze. “They beat us head-to-head before.”
Breeze said that Bardstown is good at rebounding and pressuring the ball well. He said the Indians do not do well against that pressure.
“It will be a hard matchup for us to win, but any of the teams we could have drawn will be,” he said.
The Indians will play Thursday at 7 p.m. in Green County. Tickets will be $10 cash only at the door. Adair County fans are encouraged to wear red to show their support.
