Indians look to respond, finish season strong after Friday night loss

The Adair County Indians will use Friday night’s 50-10 loss as an opportunity to reset, raise the intensity and refocus on finishing the football season strong.
Head coach Cameron Dukes said the performance did not reflect the standard the Indians have worked to establish this season, but the coaching staff and players now have an opportunity to respond through their preparation in the coming week.
“We got to look in the mirror and just try to figure out what motivates us and dig deep and try to come out and play better next week,” Dukes said.
The Indians will turn their attention to practice, where Dukes said the coaching staff plans to increase the intensity and accountability throughout the week.
The biggest emphasis, however, will be on leadership from within the locker room.
“At the end of the day, it’s got to be player led,” Dukes said. “We got to find some guys that are going to lead this team and become true leaders.”
Dukes said the coaching staff will continue setting the tone at practice while challenging players to match that standard with their own effort and leadership.
The loss provides the Indians with a clear area of focus as they move forward: consistency and accountability. Dukes said coaches will work to establish a higher level of intensity during practice and hold players more accountable, while also looking for players to step forward as leaders.
“We got to set the standard as coaches,” Dukes said. “We got to come out and hold more intensity, hold everybody accountable more as a coaching staff. And we got to have some guys step up as leaders in our locker room.”
While the result was difficult, Dukes pointed to several players who continue to consistently give their best effort. He said those players have remained reliable throughout the season and will be important as the Indians look to finish the year on a stronger note.
“The same guys that you see all the time come out,” Dukes said. “And they always give everything they got.”
Now, the Indians will have the opportunity to turn the lessons from Friday night into action during the upcoming week of practice. Rather than allowing one performance to define the remainder of the season, the team will look to use it as motivation to raise its standard.
“We just gotta figure out what it is and motivate these guys and we gotta finish the season the right way,” Dukes said.
With the season still underway, the Indians’ response will begin on the practice field. The focus will be on increased intensity, stronger leadership and accountability as Adair County prepares for its next opportunity to compete.
The Indians will take the field Friday night at home against Hart County with kickoff slated for 7 p.m.
