Middle school football ends season with tough loss to Russell County

Adair County Middle School football closed out its 2025 football season with a 36-20 loss to Russell County. This was the determining game on whether the Indians would advance to the playoffs.
The team, led by Coach Wes Stephens, finished the season with an overall record of 2-5. Despite the loss, the team showed growth and resilience throughout the season.
“It was pretty much a perfect example of the issues we’ve been fighting all season,” said Stephens. “We moved the ball well at time and had some big plays. We would then shoot ourselves in the foot with penalties or turn overs.”
“On defense, we would make plays here and there, but when it mattered most, we just couldn’t get a stop,” he said. “This season was so frustrating because this group has so much tallen, but it just didn’t translate to wins.”
“Beyond that, they are just great kids and they were great to coach,” said Stephens. “I hope they stick with it and maybe down the road Coach Cross and the high school staff can pick up some big wins with this group.”
Prior to kickoff, the team honored its eighth-grade players with special recognition alongside their parents.
